Reimagining food for people and the planet.

We're committed to developing delicious, healthier and more sustainable food and drink that our customers can feel good about. This commitment is driven by the growing recognition of the importance of healthy and sustainable diets, and an increasing awareness that the food system must change. We are focused on ensuring what our customers eat, and how it is produced, delivers benefits for both people and the planet.

To do this, we are leveraging our food travel expertise and taking an integrated people and planet approach to create great-tasting, nutritious and more sustainable offerings. Working with our suppliers, we are committed to sourcing products with due care for the environment and the people involved in their production and manufacture.

Our commitments

2025

Exceeded target for plant-based and vegetarian choices for fourth year

We design our menus to include a range of plant-based, vegetarian and non-dairy options. Over the past few years, we've been making a concerted effort to increase these ranges and reduce our reliance on animal-sourced foods.

By the end of 2025, 39% of meals offered by our own brand globally were plant-based or vegetarian, exceeding our target for at least 30% for a fourth year. In 13 of our markets, our offering is over 40%.

For our own brand units that serve coffee, by the end of 2025, 97% were offering non-dairy milk alternatives in our UK&I, North America and Continental Europe regions, with 83% in our APAC and EEME regions.

2024

Launched new Responsible Marketing Principles

We recognise the importance of ensuring our marketing communications are transparent, truthful, ethical and legal. So, in 2024, we launched our new Responsible Marketing Principles, setting out our commitments and providing a global framework for our businesses to follow.

Covering key requirements, including marketing to children and teens and health and green claims, the principles are supported by detailed internal guidelines, checklists, and approval and compliance procedures.

All colleagues working in commercial, communications, business development, legal, marketing, recruitment and sustainability roles are required to complete responsible marketing e-learning during induction and biannually.

2023

Launched our People and Planet Menu Framework

Our People and Planet Menu Framework provides practical guidelines for integrating healthier and more sustainable food and drink options across our own brands. It covers all aspects from sourcing and recipe development, to cooking methods, menu design and customer communications.

The Framework draws on the latest nutritional recommendations and standards, as well as best practice from across our global business. For example, it includes guidelines on how to incorporate healthier ingredients into recipes, such as complex carbohydrates that are minimally processed with a lower glycaemic index, like whole grains. It also covers healthier cooking methods, such as steaming, stir-frying or grilling, instead of frying. And it reinforces best practice around portion control and seasonal ingredients.

2023

Launched 'A Better Choice' labelling

We recognise that just making healthier options available isn’t enough. We also have a role to play in helping our customers easily identify them, so they can make informed choices. So, in 2023, we launched ‘A Better Choice’ toolkit globally which, based on best practice from our Norway business, uses simple iconography to help our customers easily identify healthier options on our menus.

‘A Better Choice’ emphasises fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and a variety of protein foods such as seafood, lean meats and poultry, eggs, legumes, nuts, and seeds. It can also be used to highlight items which are lower in added sugars, sodium, saturated fats, trans fats and cholesterol.

Case studies

We're focused on increasing our range of healthier food and drink items, including nutritious, lower calorie, plant-based and non-dairy milk options. These choices not only support better health but can also reduce climate impact, contributing to our net zero ambition. Our People and Planet Menu Framework guides our approach - see the timeline highlight above for more details.

For example, across APAC, the Framework informs strategic menu reviews and recipe development. In Singapore, we tested new recipes aligned with the principles; in Thailand, they shaped Camden Food Co menus; and in Malaysia, lounge menus were revised to achieve an average of 40% plant-based or vegetarian options across seven lounges in four airports. Hong Kong’s Kyra Lounge also reached over 40% plant-based offerings. Building on these learnings, we partnered with Gordon Ramsay Restaurants to introduce healthier dishes, reduce red meat, and shift towards lower-impact proteins like chicken. In 2025, this resulted in a 41% reduction in beef purchases, 24% reduction in pork, and a 41% increase in chicken.
The Framework also guided our new culinary strategy in Bahrain and helped drive the expansion of our ‘Food for Flight’ and grab ‘n’ go ranges across our EEME region. These now feature fresh juices, smoothies, fruit, salads and lower-carbohydrate or lower-sugar options.

We use a variety of channels to help customers make informed choices, including menu descriptors, iconography, product labelling, and point-of-sale communications.

To support health and wellness goals, we introduced our ‘A Better Choice’ icons (read more in timeline highlight above), now available in Bahrain, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Thailand and the UK.

This initiative nutritional labelling efforts across markets, where we work with nutritionists to calculate the calorie and nutrient values of our recipes, and leverage digital systems for recipe management, allergen information and calorie labelling.

We are also enabling climate-smart choices by adding carbon labelling to menus for selected brands in the UK and UAE, helping customers understand the environmental impact of their meals. Learn more in our Planet case studies section.

We remain committed to working with our suppliers to uphold high standards of animal welfare.

By the end of 2025, we achieved 100% cage-free eggs in all but seven markets in Asia and the Middle East, where limited local availability and fragmented supply chains remain a challenge. Transition plans for these markets are detailed in our 2025 Sustainability Data Book.

Avian flu continues to disrupt cage-free supply chains, requiring ongoing efforts from our purchasing teams. In the UK, we secured a major direct deal with a Suffolk farm in 2024 following an independent audit to verify safety and welfare practices. In the USA, we maintained cage-free status through close supplier collaboration and strategic measures, including temporarily reducing overall egg volumes.

In the Philippines, we partner with a local pig farm to supply quality pork to all units at Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Located 65 km from the airport, the 360-hectare farm meets rigorous animal welfare standards, certified by the Bureau of Animal Industry and operating under national laws. Its facilities hold Triple A certification from the National Meat Inspection Service. Beyond animal care, the farm applies circular economy principles, growing its own feed, filtering wastewater for irrigation, and converting waste into electricity, fertiliser, and water through a biogas system.
